Greedy Squirrels!

Animals, Fauna, Photo Challenge

Growing up in India, the sight of squirrels is something that I am used to and I find them quite¬†adorable ūüôā The sight of one climbing trees or running about with little pieces of food looking at humans suspiciously always makes me smile.

I particularly love their characterization in books and movies. Remember the squirrel who hangs out with Big Ears from the Noddy series? Or that squirrel from Ice age who is always hiding his nuts?

I wonder what goes through their little heads when they take off with their little treasures, their pretty eyes filled with suspicion? Do they think that their food¬†may be stolen? Or are they just plain greedy and don’t want anybody to find out?

So I couldn’t help but laugh when I spotted these squirrels smuggling pieces of food much larger than themselves! Seriously, I bet that pizza and apple weigh more than the squirrel ūüôā Definitely made my day!!

Together forever (?)

Animals, Birds, Fauna, Nature, Uncategorized

Late last December, we enjoyed a particularly beautiful Saturday at Brackenridge Park, San Antonio. The weather was blissful and the colors of nature were at their best.  While strolling through the park, we came across these two ducks. Nothing new about ducks right? Well, these two were different because they never wanted to leave each others company. They cackled all the time as if having a serious conversation. Even when my son chased them, they would run in opposite directions only to get back together!

I found them ¬†endearing…two partners who never wanted to be without each other. Would they always remain together? I wondered about how long they had been together and what they were going on about – the most recent gossip from duck town? If only I understood duck!!

Pretty¬†pictures perfect for last Fridays photo prompt, don’t you think?

Blackie

black cat, Cat, Cats, Fauna

The latest visitor to our home…He reminds me of my “Lucky” but I am partial to my Luckoo and think he is the best looking cat amongst all black cats ūüôā I miss the dear boy! Anyhow this guy kept coming around the house for the past few days to get us to know him and 2 days ago¬†he called out to us and wouldn’t leave until we went out and conversed to him! Them we fed him some biscuits and he devoured them….. the poor darling must have been ravenous..He hasn’t been around after that. But he is a¬†familiar¬†and I hope to spot him soon. I have named him Blackie, karupi, karupiah for now ūüôā He looks like a black panther no??

Tenali!!

Cat, Cats, Fauna, rescue, Tenali

This is Tenali. He was named after the famous Kamal Hassan starrer of the same name cos was afraid of everything when we found him – the “scared of” list included people, anything that moved, food, water, air, sounds….the list was endless!!….¬†¬†

And he happens to be none other than Mr.Snowy’s sibling!!!¬†

He is doing a lot better now and rules the front room of the house. He loves human touch and has even learnt to climb on laps and get comfortable there! In fact he complains if we don’t spend time with him. We are hoping and praying he finds a good home…..

If any of you kind people, who happen to come across this post, know of a good home that will give a kitten a good life filled with love and affection please drop me a line!!

More Snowy innocence
I’m cute!

This is picture of a rescued kitten, whom we named Mr.Snowy. A brief history of Mr.Snowy – his mom who used to frequent our place for food (we called her¬†“kutty” meaning “the little one” in tamil) was abducted by rag pickers (nari kuruvas to be precise) and he was left to fend for himself. He didn’t know how to survive on his own and was screaming his head off for 2 days with no food, shivering in the heavy downpours of rain in Chennai this December. We were able to rescue/find him only after several attempts! Rather he found us when we made his way into the School staff room of my MIL.¬†

Seems he particularly selected her staff room!¬†To our great surprise, we found that he had 1 blue and 1 green eye!! He is definitely special……He was with us for 2 days before a loving cat person and fellow teacher offered to adopt him. He joined Julie, their other cat at their home and is now King of the house!! We love you Mr.Snowy and we hope you live a great and healthy life full of love¬†and affection…..<3¬†
